Please help. I’ve made my typical liquid soap recipe. I recalculated it for a slightly smaller batch and through a dumb mistake didn’t calculate the lye correctly. I need to add 5 oz of lye to a batch that is already somewhat hardened. It’s all in the crock pot. Can I add the correct amount of dissolved lye to my batch if I dissolve the hardened soap? Or do I really have to throw it out? Thank you in advance!

You don’t have to throw it out! But you do have to to rebatch it completely. Dissolve the lye in at least 5 ounces of water (be careful- that can cause severe burns if not handled carefully), as you need at least the same amount of water as lye. 5 ounces of lye is a lot- are you sure that your batch is large enough to need 5 more ounces of lye?

Anyway, once you dissolve the lye into water, you can add it to your current soap paste and stir, stir, stir, stir, stir, and cook again until totally saponified.

Just adjust and rebatch
