Hi! Total newbie here! Tried to make some Shampoo bars with the following recipe:
10oz olive oil
10oz coconut oil
10oz Tallow
6oz Castor oil
13.7oz water
5.1oz lye
And we added 2Tbsp rose fragrance
And 2 tea spoons French pink clay in 2tbsp water(slurry).

Firstly, I think we over blended cause it started to separate and got really clumpy. But also the fragrance didn't work! It just smells like tallow.
My real question is can we re-batch it or do we just chuck it?

That’s not a shampoo bar. That is just soap. Soap is not good for the hair. If you want to learn how to make shampoo bars, check out Humblebeeandme.com and SwiftCraftyMonkey.blog

The reason it separated and got really clumpy is because of the fragrance. It’s call ricing. It likely accelerated, riced, and separated. Rose does that at times. There are a few scents out there that do that to soap. Make sure to look at the soaping notes before you buy them so you know what you’re getting.

I use shampoo soap bars- I like them. It’s ok for the hair for many people, especially since it’s a rinse-off product that some people can use. Some people can’t, especially processed hair.

My shampoo bars are not fragranced, though, and some fragrances do cause the soap to seize or rice or burn.

I’ll stick to my cosmetology background on hair and pH of soap vs a pH balanced shampoo and conditioner.

Of course and that’s totally understandable. The only issue I have with saying “no one should….” For some people, it works well. Many people will use and love syndet bars, and for some with processed hair or very long hair, that works for them. For me, and many others, shampoo soap does work well as it’s a rinse off product and they find it works great too.
(Chemistry is my thing).

I use CP soap to wash my hair and it’s lovely, it’s always much softer and not as weighed down as it is when I wash with shampoo, it’s personal preference
